Chapter 77: Dark Side
The demon monster incident in the morning caused the entire Mai City to fall into a great panic.
But because of the timely official response and the inspiring presence of superheroes, the situation was not that bad.
Those who should go to school should go to school, and those who should go to work should go to work. Then take some time to remember the dead and praise the heroes.
Apart from the fact that a large number of tourist attractions have been blocked, nothing seems to be different from before.
At least that's the case for Carlos.
He got off work a little late today.
The reason was that it was the contractor's birthday, so he invited everyone to a meal and drank some wine.
So instead of driving home, Carlos chose to run home.
It wasn't difficult for him.
He had just easily climbed over a wall when, in the residual light of the evening lamp, he came face to face with a strange-looking insect.
Calling it a bug is a bit of an exaggeration, this thing is bigger than a steamed crab!
The bug seemed to glance at him, but didn't pay any attention to him, just like seeing a tree on the road. Isn't it normal to have trees on the roadside? It even planned to pass by his "tree" directly.
Then, Carlos unexpectedly punched him into the wall, shattering him into black mud.
“What a terrible smell.”
For some reason, Carlos instinctively disliked the smell of this insect, and this strange insect also gave him a very wrong feeling, which made him take the initiative to attack for the first time.
He looked around with a frown, and under the dim street light, he found that there seemed to be a person lying on the ground in front of him.
Carlos wiped his fist with a tissue, walked over carefully, and confirmed that the person lying down was indeed a person before turning him over.
It was an old white man with his eyes closed and mouth open, as if he was sleeping.
"Hey, you okay?"
"Wake up."
After shaking and patting the man's face several times to no avail, Carlos stood up and was about to call an ambulance when he saw two patrolmen suddenly appear out of nowhere and pointed their guns at him.
"Hey, hey, hey! What are you doing?! Put your hands up!"
"Turn around and drop your phone!"
Carlos raised his hands in confusion: "I just saw him fainted on the side of the road."
"Do as we say!"
"Put your phone down quickly and get down on the ground!"
Carlos, who didn't want to cause trouble, slowly did as they said.
They rushed up, one handcuffed his hands, and the other began to check the unconscious old white man on the ground, but did not find any wounds.
"What did you do to him?"
Carlos shook his head: "I didn't do anything."
"Take him away, send him to the hospital for examination first-ah!"
As he was speaking, the strange insect that had been hiding in the darkness for a long time saw the right time and pounced.
Before the patrolman could even see clearly what was happening, his vision was blocked and his neck was strangled.
"Oh shit, what the hell is this!" Another patrolman took out his gun and then put it down again, choosing to ride on his companion who was still struggling on the ground, trying to tear off the bug that was tightly holding on to his colleague's head.
Carlos saw another strange insect appear and quickly shouted, "Be careful!"
The patrolman had no time to react and was pounced on.
At this time, the first patrolman who was attacked had no reaction, just as peaceful as the old white man lying next to him.
Carlos didn't care about that anymore. He easily opened the handcuffs, ran to the still struggling patrolman, and tried to tear the bug off with a little force.
"Ahhh!!!" A violent scream was heard, and blood was faintly oozing from around the face.
It seems that this thing cannot be torn off by force, otherwise the face might be taken off. Carlos didn't even dare to kill it, for fear that it would release something before or after death and take the patrolman away.
Slowly, the patrolman's struggle disappeared, but he was still breathing, just falling into a coma.
Carlos looked around vigilantly. He felt that there were still these strange insects around, but strangely, for some reason, these insects did not actively attack him.
Look at the first patrolman who was hit in the face. At this time, the bug had already fallen off his face limply and walked to the side. After a few steps, it turned into a pool of black mud, just like when he was beaten to death by Carlos.
"What is going on?" Carlos was worried. He was a little concerned about Dana who was alone at home.
After vaguely hearing a car coming, he confirmed that the people were still alive and quickly fled the scene, killing two strange-shaped insects that were passing by.
I ran all the way and finally returned home.
"Danna!"
They rented a typical one-story bungalow in the suburbs, so it was not too expensive. Carlos remembered that Dana had dreamed of owning a house, so after considering it, he rented it, which was half of Dana's dream come true.
The house was brightly lit. Carlos entered the house and called out a few times before getting a response.
"Carlos? What's wrong? Did something happen?"
When Dana heard Carlos' urgent call, she hurried over from the room with a nervous look on her face.
"Huh." Carlos breathed a sigh of relief and told Dana what had just happened.
"Tell me, could it be related to the demon today?"
Dana likes to browse social networks and watch short videos, so when she heard such a strange thing, the first thing she thought of was the beach demon this morning.
Carlos also heard about this from his coworkers while eating. The first thing he thought of was the "monster" that gave him power.
This is the existence that best fits the image of the devil in his mind.
But it was also he who made him recognize his past sins and realize that he had to atone for them.
So he didn't know whether the monster was a devil or a supernatural being as others said.
"Brother, don't worry about me. Look, I always carry the gun you gave me." Dana saw that Carlos was worried about her, so she patted the gun bag and comforted him, "At worst, I can buy a football helmet and carry it with me. If anything goes wrong, I'll put it on and shoot if I see any suspicious bugs. It's absolutely safe!"
Carlos was not reassured. He planned to search the surrounding area first to see how far the strange insects had spread.
After instructing Dana, Carlos changed into black clothes, disappeared into the night, and explored the general area of the community, but found nothing.
However, when he was about to expand his search, Dana sent him a few videos.
When you click on it, you will see that they are all pictures taken by others of bugs riding on faces. The popularity of the pictures has been quite high. Many people have questioned whether it is fake and think it is an online marketing before the release of a horror movie. It is an old trick and every time they make it look like the real thing. Don't try to fool them this time.
Also pinned at the top is a sentence from the person who posted the video.
[Oh my god, he completely forgot that he was unconscious for almost half an hour after a bug crawled on his face! He didn't believe me no matter what I said, until I showed him the video.]
"Forget things? Forget that you were attacked by bugs?" Carlos began to search for [sudden coma] in the city and found that since last night, many people had complained that they suddenly fell into a coma for unknown reasons.
Based on his own personal experience, Carlos had a horrifying guess.
So he called old Kurt.
"I want you to help me investigate something."
“Go to the hospital and find patients who claim to have suddenly fallen into a coma and ask them to do a CT scan.”
"Thank you."
After hanging up the phone, Carlos did not put all his hopes on old Kurt. He opened the map and headed towards a nearby hospital.
Hopefully his guess is wrong.
Otherwise, it would be a catastrophe for the entire city.
Everyone, be careful when eating mangosteen. I accidentally swallowed a large pit and now I feel weird.
