Chapter 268 38: Fish Head Town
Restaurant private room.
The little fox buried his head and slurped the lamb chops, beef and snacks in front of him.
"Eat, eat as much as you can. If not, I'll ask for more." Jennifer said a little embarrassedly.
The fox's ears trembled, and it carefully raised its green eyes slightly, but it was still a little scared and did not dare to look at her. It only dared to look at Ye Jie on the other side.
"She is Sister Jennifer, you don't have to be afraid of her. It was just a misunderstanding before. Besides, she didn't do anything to you." Ye Jie comforted her softly.
Jennifer smiled guiltily. She really hadn't done anything yet, mainly because she didn't have enough time.
She discovered this little fox when she revisited her old place in Ba City. She visited all the places that Bai Shihang had taken her to before. Then she unexpectedly ran into this girl on the street. She displayed a strength that was definitely not that of an ordinary person and stopped a car that had lost control and was crashing into passers-by.
Originally the little fox was very cautious. After rescuing the person, she did not stop and quickly ran away. However, she had been spotted by Jennifer. The fox with only super strength and rigid body was no match for her and was naturally caught.
Because she was exposed in order to save people, even if she was later found out that she was not human, Jennifer did not want to use excessive means to find out her origins.
The reason for calling Ye Jie back was to see if she had any gentler methods.
I didn't expect that the two of them were old friends. It was totally unexpected.
"I, I want some buns too." The fox said shyly, "The ones with coriander filling!"
What the hell? Jennifer blinked twice and looked at Ye Jie in confusion.
Ye Jie seemed to remember something and smiled: "It was originally used by the teacher as a means of punishment, but I didn't expect that Hu Liu loved to eat it, so I never made it again."
"I tried to make it myself, but I could never make it taste as good as the one my teacher taught me." Speaking of his favorite food, the fox's tail wagged.
Well, Jennifer used her privilege and called the Holy See.
"Okay, I understand, Saint Lady. These are coriander-filled buns, right? I'll arrange for someone to prepare them right away."
After hanging up the phone, the cardinal, who seemed to be in a high position of power to outsiders, immediately put down the work at hand and hurried to contact chefs all over the city.
One phone call put more than a dozen senior chefs into a frenzy of activity. Before long, the freshly-baked buns would be delivered to Bacheng on a special plane.
"After Sister Ye Jie left, the teacher continued to teach us about human life and culture for a while. Finally, he left a sum of money and did not leave any instructions. We thought you were carrying out some task for the teacher, so even though we knew you were in Mo City, we did not disturb you." After eating until he was about 60% full, Hu Liu began to talk about his experiences in the past few years.
"Hu Yi wanted to continue to stay with his teacher, so he started looking for the teacher all over the world."
"Fox Two and Fox Three felt that we were not from this world after all. If we were discovered by humans or extraordinary beings, who knows what they would use us for research. So based on what the teacher had said, they focused on finding the right treasure to return to their original world. Later, Fox Four joined them and became mysterious. We gradually lost contact."
"Fox Five and I feel the same way. There's nothing wrong with living here. We didn't have a good life in the original world anyway, and we didn't have any good memories left. We might as well start a new life here. After all, we have the masks left by our teacher. If we are careful, we should be able to avoid being discovered." As he spoke, Fox Six looked at Jennifer silently.
Jennifer, who was listening intently, said helplessly: "I just happened to run into you. Next time you encounter something like this, try not to act so obviously. I wouldn't have suspected you even if you had pushed the passerby aside, but you lifted the car up, it's hard for me not to suspect you."
Hearing this, Fox Six also blushed.
Ye Jie discovered that there was one person missing from Hu Liu's mouth.
"Fox Seven? I don't know." Fox Six shook his head. "This girl has always been heartless. Three days after the teacher left, she left a note saying that the world is big and she wanted to see it, so she ran away. I heard that Fox One saw her once in South America. She has always been the strongest and most cunning one among the seven of us. Sister, you don't have to worry about her."
Strictly speaking, Ye Jie was the eighth experimental subject in that batch, so she should be the younger sister. However, because of her human identity, Bai Shihang did not give her the number of Fox Eight, but a name. The foxes who didn't know the truth called her sister.
Ye Jie was a little disappointed that he didn't get the latest news from his teacher, but it was already a surprise to meet an old friend again.
"The coriander buns are here. I'll go get them." After answering the phone, Jennifer went out.
Soon, she came back with a few exquisite wooden boxes, which contained trays of coriander packets.
Fox Six tasted one and his eyes lit up. Before he could swallow it completely, he said impatiently, "It's not as good as the teacher's, but it's much better than what I made! Sister, do you want to try it?"
Ye Jie politely refused, because she knew what it tasted like.
Jennifer was a little curious and tried one as well: "Not bad!"
"Really?! Really?!" Fox Six was quite excited as if he had met a soulmate. The previous unhappiness instantly disappeared in the blink of an eye, and he began to talk to Jennifer about the grand plan of planting coriander all over the world.
When the two had almost finished eating, Ye Jie took the initiative to invite: "Fox Six, I will go to Tokyo next. If you have nothing to do, why don't you come with me? You can also ask Fox Five to come with you."
"Okay, I haven't been to Tokyo yet, but Fox Five only comes out for a few months a year. Right now, he's probably living in some deep mountains and forests where few people go. I can't contact him." Fox Six shook his head and explained.
Ye Jie didn't force it too much. It was already good to have Fox Six as a companion. As for other companions, he could only wait for fate. At least he didn't hear any bad news about them.
"Take a day's rest and leave for Tokyo the day after tomorrow. Although the Supreme Saint didn't urge us, I think she should be almost ready. I just don't know what serious incident has happened that requires so many forces to gather together for the third anti-demon joint meeting." Jennifer stretched lazily, and the surge made Fox Six, who was still eating, a little dazed.
"Hopefully, things won't be too bad."
"It seems that things have reached the worst point."
South Australia, Northern Territory.
It is winter now, but because it is located north of the Tropic of Cancer and close to the equator, it should not be very cold even in winter.
But common sense doesn’t apply now, especially in recent years.
An old car that had been used for who knows how many years completely stalled in a sudden snowstorm, and no matter how hard the driver tried, he couldn't get it started again.
As the heating disappeared, the cold quickly penetrated into the car, causing the young couple inside to break down and cry.
Terry gave up the idea of continuing the startup, looked at his girlfriend beside him with a stiff smile, and spoke carefully.
"Anna, I have good news and bad news."
"I'm not blind. The bad news is that the car is a total wreck, right? Oh my god, I shouldn't have agreed to this road trip! This car is older than me! What should we do now? This is a godforsaken place. There's no signal. We're going to freeze to death here! Didn't you say it wouldn't snow here?"
Anna was extremely anxious and fired at Terry, leaving him speechless.
"Damn it, there seems to be no car passing here. What road did you choose?" Anna couldn't stop complaining.
"I just saw a road sign that says we can go to Newland, even though it's not on the map. But it's very close to the coast, and there's a town there. Maybe we can go over there and see if there's anyone who can repair the car?"
Terry was using the offline map he had downloaded earlier to look for the nearest settlement, and he finally found one.
"Very close, how close?" Anna dug out her and Terry's thick clothes and put them on quickly. "I also brought five bikinis, but I don't think they will be needed now."
“Less than twenty kilometers.”
Anna stared at what he said, took a deep breath, and looked around through the car window.
This place has a tropical savanna climate, with scattered weeds that she couldn't name. It was just because there was no human habitation and not even a highway billboard, which made people feel extremely desolate. Now it was buried by the gradually covered snow. It was really a damn tropical blizzard. "There's not even a kangaroo. It seems that it's really remote." Anna was not stupid. She had just vented her emotions. It would be bad for anyone to complain like this. She could only sigh, "We can't walk 20 kilometers. In this weather, why don't we stay here and wait to see if there are any passing cars or something?"
Terry was silent for a while. He also felt that this snowstorm would not last long. At least the car was a shelter for them.
However, this snowstorm was completely beyond their expectations. After more than two hours, it not only did not subside, but became even more violent. Some flying stones had already cracked the car glass. It seemed that it would shatter directly in a short time. By then, the cold wind would blow in, and the two of them would not be able to hold on for much longer.
"No, the car can't stay here anymore. We have to leave immediately." Terry packed his things nervously.
Anna kept her mouth shut and didn't hold back, helping to pack some important items.
After opening the car door and adjusting to the cold, Terry determined the direction based on the compass, held his girlfriend's hand tightly, and the two walked with difficulty on the snowy road.
The wind was howling as Terry walked along, taking out his cell phone from time to time to check the signal.
"Ho ho, Terry, how far we've come."
"Well, it should be five kilometers."
“Only five kilometers!!”
Anna felt dizzy.
"Dear, if I can't get out of this, remember to have someone paint my ashes into a portrait and hang me by your bed. I want you to think of me every time you fuck with someone else."
"."
Beep!
"Is it my imagination? It seems like my hearse is urging me up."
"Hey hey!! Help! Help! We need help!"
Terry turned around as if he saw something incredible, and waved like crazy. This action made the dazed Anna suddenly sober up. She realized that she had encountered a passing car, and she also started shouting and waving randomly.
Behind them, a small truck slowly slowed down, even equipped with a snow shovel, shoveled up a pile of snow, and stopped in front of them.
The two of them quickly ran to the driver's seat and saw a middle-aged man with a fat face sticking his head out of the car window. Suddenly, a strong smell of fish mixed with tobacco wafted out, and even the cold wind could not blow it away.
"Was that car yours?" The man puffed out a puff of smoke, pointed to the back and spoke proactively.
"Yes, uncle, our car broke down and the snow and wind don't show any sign of stopping. I saw a small town nearby, so I wanted to go there to see if there is anyone who can repair our car, and at the same time avoid this horrible weather." Terry managed to remain calm, shivering, and remained alert while dealing with the matter.
"You mean Yutou Town, right? I'm from that town. There are people who can repair cars there, but they may not have the parts." The man's eyes moved between the two of them. "If you are not afraid of me, I can take you to Yutou Town."
".Thank you so much." After thinking for a few seconds, Terry agreed. Now they had no choice at all. They just hoped that this driver was not a murderer like those scary American movies.
The car might normally have passengers, so if we squeeze in, four people including the driver can sit in it.
"Uncle, is this your car for delivering goods?" After getting in the car, which had heater on, Anna immediately felt much more energetic, but she felt a little uncomfortable with the pungent fishy smell.
Throwing away the cigarette, the man drank half a bottle of water and said without looking back: "Well, I'm a fisherman in town, and I also do some business by the way, selling the fish in town to nearby towns that are not near the sea."
"What about you guys, little ones who look like they've just reached adulthood."
"Uh, we are"
After some chatting, the two introduced themselves as having come all the way from Queensland.
"You shouldn't take this road. Only locals like us take this road. If you walk to the end of the road, you'll find an abandoned gold rush town. As far as I remember, no one lives there, but there have always been rumors of ghosts. Maybe it's been occupied by a group of criminals."
Although the man has a face full of flesh, he is quite talkative when you talk to him. He gives people the feeling that he is easy to get along with and there is no fierceness at all.
The two gradually let down their guard and learned that the man was called Heyman and some interesting local stories.
Suddenly, Heyman's expression became serious and he slowly stopped the car. Except for the faint sound of wind and snow, the surroundings were unusually quiet.
"Uncle Heyman, what are you doing?" Terry asked carefully.
"Haha, didn't I tell you that the gold rush town might have been occupied by some gangs, and now they are targeting me? You guys wait in the car, don't get out, I'll go to the back to get something to teach those ignorant guys a lesson."
Heyman sneered, gave them a few words of advice, and then got out of the car neatly, leaving the two of them staring at each other in bewilderment.
"How did he see it?" Anna subconsciously lowered her voice and asked curiously. It was obviously difficult to even see the road outside.
Terry shook his head, feeling that something was odd.
There was a sound of the cargo box at the back of the car opening. It should have been opened by Heyman.
Soon, after a silent shake, the car returned to silence.
It was not until a few minutes had passed that they could vaguely hear strange noises beneath the wind and snow.
It sounded like an explosion or the roar of a whale or dolphin, but it was too messy to tell the difference.
Six or seven minutes passed, and the carriage began to shake again. Then, as the two were worried, the driver's door was suddenly opened, and Heyman, who looked rather embarrassed, appeared in front of them.
"Hehe, it's okay, it's all resolved. Anyone who dares to attack our Yutou Town is simply courting death." Heyman got in the car, closed the door, opened the water bottle and drank a few sips of water.
"Uncle Heyman, are you okay? I have some bandages and stuff here." Terry asked worriedly, looking at Heyman's tattered clothes and the charred patches on his skin.
"It's okay, just a flesh wound." Heyman waved his hand, and Terry could only hold back his words.
The truck continued to move forward, and no one knew how Heyman found his way.
"Sit tight."
When they were driving to a certain section of the road, Heyman suddenly spoke, then turned the steering wheel and the truck drove out of the dilapidated road and into a dirt road that might have been formed by long-term rolling, and it became a little bumpy.
The smell was already bad, and the car was shaking. Anna quickly covered her mouth, fearing that she would not be able to hold back and spurt out a mouthful.
"Uncle Heyman, did something fall over in your container?" Terry seemed to hear some noise coming from behind.
Heyman remained calm: "It's just some empty baskets. Maybe they weren't put away properly just now. It's nothing."
After a while, they finally saw the outline of a small town.
We have arrived at Yutou Town.
