Chapter 62: The Seven Sacred Sites of the Big Dipper (Part )
"The sound of the upper world is the Way, the sound of the lower world is the form. The music of the upper world is disordered, while the music of the lower world has rules. Therefore, the sound of the Way of Heaven and Earth is mysterious and cannot be described."
Inside the Fengming Hall, on the high platform, the Supreme Elder spoke in Taoism, explaining the true meaning of music to the children who had studied music for a month.
"All sounds arise from the heart. The movement of the human heart is caused by things. When it is moved by things, it is expressed in sound. The change of sounds is called music. When the sounds meet, it is called music. Therefore, music is the heart's feeling of things. Sounds can reach the soul, and emotions can be moved in the heart. Therefore, there are joy, anger, worry, thought, sadness, fear, and surprise. These are the seven emotions. There are also the five notes of gong, shang, jue, zhi, and yu to communicate the five elements and play the normal and strange sounds of heaven and earth."
Compared with the music theory chapters taught by the middle-aged uncle before, the music theory explained by the Supreme Elder seemed to be more inclined to explain the laws of heaven and earth through music.
The children in the temple did not feel at all as relaxed as they had been when they were studying before.
Even most of the children had a trace of confusion in their eyes, and they totally couldn't understand what the Supreme Elder was saying.
Only Li Zhi could probably understand the content of the sermon of the Supreme Elder.
The Heavenly Sound of the Great Way is naturally created. It is everywhere and exists in everything. If you want to hear the Heavenly Sound, you must first cultivate your human mind. When the mind is connected, all things are connected. When all things are connected, the sound is connected. When the sound is connected, the Way is connected.
It’s a pity that there are only a limited number of children who can understand this.
Even though they already knew that this supreme elder, who was about to die, was a great master who was proficient in the art of sound, knowing it was one thing, but understanding what the sound of Tao was was not an easy task.
It’s like everyone knows that there is a course called advanced mathematics, but when it comes to actually studying it, most people are confused and have no idea what those symbols mean, as if they were reading an incomprehensible book.
The Supreme Elder's sermons lasted for an irregular period of time. He kept talking about his understanding of music on the stage, but the children in the audience could not bear it anymore. Soon, some children who could not understand the truth began to fall asleep.
Without seeing any movement from the Grand Elder on the high platform, the sleepy children were enveloped by a brilliant light and disappeared directly from the Fengming Hall. They were then escorted out of the Fairy Island by the deacons and disciples waiting outside the hall.
The Supreme Elder preached from sunrise to sunset.
The remaining thirty or so children all looked exhausted, as if they had experienced a fierce battle.
Upon seeing this, the Grand Elder nodded slightly, seeming to be very satisfied that there were still thirty or so children left, and then disappeared from the hall.
Afterwards, the middle-aged monk who was in charge of teaching them came on stage again and said to the remaining children in the hall: "That's all for today. Go down and have a rest. We will have the final performance assessment tomorrow morning."
The children immediately scattered and walked out of the hall.
The little sister Le Yao who gave Li Zhi a suona did not leave immediately, but came close to Li Zhi and asked, "Junior brother Changshou, how much did you understand from the ancestor's teaching just now?"
Li Zhi thought about it and said, "About 70 to 80 percent."
Le Yao was surprised: "So many?"
Li Zhi asked: "Senior sister, you are proficient in music, I think you should understand more than me."
"Well." Le Yao's face showed a trace of embarrassment, and her eyes began to wander left and right. It was not until the two of them walked out of the hall together that she said with a lack of confidence: "I also understood about 70% of it."
Then, she said, "Junior brother, why don't we find a place to have a discussion?"
Li Zhi understood something after seeing her reaction. It seemed like she didn't understand at all and needed to make up for it with him.
Li Zhi had no intention of refusing this.
Over the past month, this junior sister Le Yao has taken good care of him and even taught him how to play the suona.
The family-inherited craft was indeed extraordinary, and it turned Li Zhi from a layman into a suona master.
Although I can't play the tune of White Bird Paying Homage to the Phoenix yet, it's more than enough for me to play some songs for funerals.
Perhaps the funeral music was too unlucky, so none of the other children wanted to hang out with them.
This situation made Li Zhi wonder in his heart whether Senior Sister Le Yao did this on purpose.
The sound of her flute playing was indeed pleasant to the ears, allowing Li Zhi to enjoy the company of wonderful music for a month.
The valley outside Fengming Palace is very large and has many places for activities, so people rarely have disputes over activity areas.
Li Zhi and Junior Sister Le Yao soon arrived at the top of a mountain in the west and began to discuss Taoism in the afterglow of the setting sun.
It is more like asking for advice than discussing the truth.
Junior Sister Le Yao kept asking questions, and Li Zhi kept answering them.
It was not until a hint of paleness appeared in the eastern sky that she let Li Zhi go with reluctance.
"Junior brother, you are very good. I will remember you. After we go back, I will introduce you to some beautiful junior sisters. The female disciples in our Lifeng are definitely prettier than the senior sisters and junior sisters in your Lingyaofeng." Junior sister Le Yao patted Li Zhi's shoulder in a condescending manner and said.
Li Zhi curled his lips secretly, and then said: "Senior sister, let's go back quickly. The sun will come out soon. I guess the old master will show up as soon as the sun comes out, just like yesterday."
Sure enough, the supreme elder appeared in Fengming Palace at the exact moment.
The middle-aged uncle also stood beside the Grand Elder and said to the thirty or so children who had returned to the hall in time: "Next, the disciples whose names I called out will step out and begin to play their best music. The other disciples will temporarily retreat to the sides of the hall and wait."
"The first one is Julifeng, Jia Changming."
A sturdy twelve-year-old boy walked out of the crowd holding a guqin. After bowing to the two elders on the stage, he immediately began to play.
"clank."
The sound of iron horses and golden swords rang out in the hall, as if playing a scene of fighting on the battlefield, sonorous and passionate, with a bit of heroic spirit.
There was even a hint of worry and jealousy in the eyes of many children.
The middle-aged elder on the stage nodded slightly, and a smile appeared on his face unconsciously, as if he was very satisfied with Jia Changming's performance.
Until Jia Changming finished playing the music, he did not see any change in the expression of the Supreme Elder beside him.
The middle-aged elder motioned Jia Changming to step down, and then said, "Next, Xingfeng, Hua Yunlong."
A handsome nine-year-old boy walked to the center of the hall with the gait of a dragon and a tiger. After bowing to the two elders on the stage, he took out a long flute carved with dragons and phoenixes and began to play it.
For a moment, the hall seemed to be filled with the sounds of dragon roars and tiger howls, which were distant, deep and captivating.
"Hua Yunlong is indeed the cousin of Senior Brother Hua Yunfei. He possesses such courage at such a young age. Under his delicate appearance, he seems to have the strength to tear tigers and leopards apart. I heard that when he was six years old, he bathed in the blood of a whole dragon to build his foundation."
After seeing Hua Yunlong's performance, some children in the hall couldn't help but start whispering to each other about his performance.
Li Zhi, however, stood there calmly, not affected by Hua Yunlong's performance at all, as if the quality of the other party's performance had nothing to do with him.
When Hua Yunlong finished playing, the Supreme Elder still did not express his opinion.
Afterwards, the middle-aged elder asked the next child to perform. Coincidentally, the third person to perform was Li Zhi’s junior sister Le Yao.
I saw Le Yao walking out of the crowd.
The look in the eyes of the Grand Elder seemed to have changed slightly, with an expectant look. Sure enough, when Le Yao took out the purple jade flute and began to play, a special mood appeared in the hall, as if the surrounding spiritual energy began to follow the rhythm of the oriole song she played.
When her flute music reached its climax, the spiritual energy in the hall suddenly became agitated, and two orioles formed by the spiritual energy appeared out of thin air and began to fly around her.
This scene greatly surprised the children present.
Upon seeing this, the Grand Elder nodded slightly.
Afterwards, after Le Yao finished playing, the middle-aged elder called her to wait under the stage.
This aroused the envy of everyone.
Afterwards, the children performed their best pieces one after another, but no one could get the same treatment as Le Yao.
Until Li Zhi, who was at the end of the line, took the gong and prepared to play.
The Grand Elder on the high platform suddenly said, "You don't have to play anymore. Stand next to Le Yao."
Li Zhi was a little surprised, but did not reject the Grand Elder's intention and walked directly towards Le Yao at the edge of the platform.
“Grandmaster, I am dissatisfied. Why was Li Changshou able to pass without having to perform?” Hua Yunlong of Xingfeng immediately stood up and shouted.
The other children gave the same questioning expressions.
The Grand Elder smiled and said, "Want to listen? Then let him play a piece for you. I hope you won't regret it."
Then, the Grand Elder said to Li Zhi, "Go, let everyone hear your performance."
"Yes, Master." Li Zhi bowed respectfully.
Then he took out the gong again and started beating it randomly, "dang dang dang".
All the disciples present were shocked by his disorganized playing, but before they could shout, they felt upset and the divine power in their bodies showed signs of running wild. They wanted to rush up and tear Li Zhi apart, cursing, "What the hell are you playing?"
Li Zhi, however, acted as if no one was around and didn't feel that he was making noise at all. He continued to knock "dang dang dang" for a long time.
"Grandmaster, I have finished my performance."
After knocking, Li Zhi said to the supreme elder on the stage.
But those children who were so upset that their powers were about to go out of control wanted to eat him, but finally they breathed a sigh of relief and were no longer attacked by the noise.
The Grand Elder on the high platform nodded with satisfaction and said, "Very good, you have already grasped the true meaning of the three flavors of the way of music."
This comment made the children even angrier.
When they wanted to say something, the middle-aged elder on the stage said with a dark face, "Okay, that's enough for today."
There was a horrifying divine power in the voice, which instantly made the children realize that this was not a place where they could act recklessly.
Then, the Grand Elder glanced at the children present and slowly said, "Hua Yunlong, Jia Changming, Xiaoxiao, Wang Zifeng, and Huo Feiyan stay, and everyone else go back."
Then the Grand Elder turned to the middle-aged elder and said, "Chen Chao, you also step down."
"Yes, great-grandmaster." Chen Chao said respectfully to the supreme elder.
Then he took those disciples who were not named and left Fengming Hall.
As they left, the Supreme Elder cast a spell to seal the entire Fengming Palace. In an instant, Li Zhi felt as if he had changed time and space and could no longer sense any breath or movement outside the palace.
Afterwards, the Grand Master gestured to Li Zhi and Le Yao to stand with the five disciples he had named.
"Are you all confused as to why an old man like me, who is about to die, is recruiting disciples with such fanfare?"
They couldn't help but wonder. In fact, according to the ability of this supreme elder, there was no need to go through so much trouble to find a suitable disciple in Taixuan Sect. He could just use the power of his divine mind to scan the entire sect and roughly see which disciples had enough talent to inherit his mantle.
Then after touching the bones and examining the body, the successor can be basically determined.
But now, when selecting them, people don’t consider their physical fitness or their understanding of cultivation, but only their mastery of music.
It seems somewhat absurd.
Just as they were curious, the appearance of the supreme elder suddenly began to change and turned into a strange middle-aged man who looked to be in his forties or fifties.
Then he said, "Actually, I am not Elder Chen Yin. My last name is Hua and my given name is Yue. According to seniority, I am the great uncle of the current headmaster of Taixuan Sect. From now on, you can just call me Grandmaster Huayue."
"You are the ancestor Hua Yue. Didn't you pass away three hundred years ago?" Hua Yunlong, who was born in the Hua family, exclaimed after the supreme elder introduced himself.
Patriarch Hua Yue did not respond to him, but said in a heavy tone: "The world is about to change. Next, I will train the seven of you. Once your senior brothers Hua Yunfei and others encounter an accident or are unable to take on the responsibility, you seven people will need to step forward and lead Taixuan Sect to meet the great storm.
Since the founding of our Taixuan Sect by the first ancestor, we have gone through the continuous struggle of 29 generations of disciples to achieve today's great situation. We, the disciples of Taixuan Sect, cannot always be inferior to others. At the advent of this great era, we must rise to the challenge and develop our sect into a heritage comparable to that of the major holy places."
After Hua Yue Patriarch finished speaking, Hua Yunlong said, "Ancestor Hua Yue, with our qualifications, I'm afraid it's difficult for us to take on such a great responsibility, right?"
In the same age group, he is still far inferior to Hua Yunfei back then, not to mention the saints and saintesses of the major holy places who are more powerful than Hua Yunfei. On this point, even though Hua Yunlong is still young, he has a very clear understanding.
Jia Changming and others also showed puzzled expressions. They all knew very well what their qualifications were.
It is far from reaching the level that can lead Taixuanmen to take off.
Huayue Patriarch said: "You don't have to worry about this. Next, Grand Elder Chen Yin will take you to a mysterious place to practice and make up for your innate deficiencies. When the transformation is complete, your talents will be greatly improved and will not be weaker than any descendant of the Holy Land."
Hearing this, Li Zhi thought to himself, "Could it be that the Taixuan Sect's top brass have already noticed that Hua Yunfei has become a pawn of the ruthless clan?"
Come to think of it, it should be so. The ancestor of the Hua family was proficient in the Great Way of Stars. After practicing the Great Way of Stars to a high level, he should not have the kind of fairy-like temperament that Hua Yunfei had.
The top leaders of Taixuan Sect must have noticed some clues long ago, but they did not dare to act rashly because of the ruthlessness and strength of this ruthless lineage.
After all, the Taixuan Sect is not the ancient Jiang Family, which can directly kill the protectors of the ruthless lineage and seize the scriptures they possess for their disciples to practice.
However, Li Zhi had not expected that Taixuan Sect actually had a precious place that could allow its disciples to be reborn.
But why didn't Patriarch Huayue take them to such a precious place himself, but instead asked the Supreme Elder Chen Yin, who was about to die, to take them there to practice?
Will there be any unforeseen dangers?
At the same time, Li Zhi was a little worried. If he continued to practice with the powerful Grand Elder Chen Yin, would his immortal body be exposed?
Judging from the reaction of Patriarch Huayue just now, their every move in Fengming Palace in the past month has been under the other party's surveillance. The other party even knows everything they said and did.
