Chapter 69: Glimpse of the Devil (Update 510, please subscribe!)
"Merciful Father, I have fallen into a realm where sin is invisible."
——"The Unfinished Oath of the Saints in the New World"
When Link woke up and regained consciousness, he only felt pain in his waist, swollen lips, and a faint fragrance at the tip of his nose.
"Ok?"
"Who am I? Where am I?"
After a moment of confusion, Link opened his eyes and was about to stand up when he found that he was tightly embraced by two white and tender arms.
Reaching out his hand and gently moving it away, Link stood up and walked into the bathroom.
But looking in the mirror, he didn't seem to have any abnormalities, but he felt something was wrong with his body. Link frowned slightly.
"Why do I feel bald?"
(ω`)
"Forget it, never mind."
Turn on the shower switch, and the shower head above your head tilts down to pour out warm water.
After a quick wash, Link walked out of the bathroom ready to go.
Looking at Louise lazily lying on the soft big bed, Link's eyes were clear without a trace of impurities.
Slowly walking to the bed, Link gently and meticulously covered Louise with a blanket, who might have caught a cold, and left the room.
After Link left, Louise immediately opened her eyes, breathed a long sigh of relief, and felt that she had foresight. Fortunately, after a crazy night yesterday, she still forced herself to get up, cleaned Link, and then fell asleep peacefully.
……
My name is Matt Murdock. I am blind. During the day, I am a lawyer living in Hell's Kitchen helping others with legal cases.
But whenever night falls, I will transform into the "ghost wandering in Hell's Kitchen" - "Daredevil", strike hard at those evils and save ordinary people from distress.
The "precision shooting" that happened some time ago still seems like a thorn buried in my heart, lingering in my mind all the time, and a dark cloud of doubt is looming.
Because I don’t know whether it is my lifelong enemy “Kingpin” and his minion “Bullseye” who are behind this, or a new uninvited guest who has come to Hell’s Kitchen.
A strange feeling always makes me feel uneasy. I am not sure what the consequences will be if I continue to investigate, but what I can be sure of is that I will not give up the investigation...
Recently, Hell's Kitchen has become strangely quiet for some reason, perhaps because of the sensational "Superman".
I don't like this guy. In my opinion, he is just a reckless man with empty power.
Although he did do some things to punish evil, promote good and eliminate evil, his methods were too rough, even cruel, which I cannot accept.
People only have one life. Even if you have great power, you should not arbitrarily decide the life and death of others.
Once a powerful force is not restrained and is used recklessly on others, it will become a disaster.
Human nature cannot stand the test, and I don’t think anyone has the right to judge life.
This is me, Daredevil—the belief that Matt Murdock has always held on to.
Hell's Kitchen, New York City
Night slowly fell, crows were howling on the telephone poles,
Matt Murdoch, dressed in a legal suit and holding a cane, walked slowly on the deserted street.
In the silent night, it seemed that only his footsteps echoed on the street.
After several twists and turns, Matt Murdock came to a corner deep in the alley.
Unlike the dilapidated houses surrounded by ugly, suggestive graffiti, there is a church in the middle.
The clean white walls looked as if they had just been painted, the weeds on the path outside the door and in the courtyard had been cleared, and even the originally crooked tombstone crosses had been repaired and tidied up.
Of course, Matt Murdock couldn't see all of this with his own eyes.
Being blind, he made a rough judgment based on his sensitive sense of smell, which was the faint smell of formaldehyde in paint, the strange odor of stirred soil, and the smooth road surface under his feet.
The cane is an extension of Matt Murdock's senses, and also a weapon for fighting.
It senses things for Matt that he cannot touch directly at close range.
"pat-"
After knocking gently again, Matt confirmed that he had arrived at the church door.
I reached out and politely pressed the doorbell. Soon, there was a noise from inside the door.
Matt tapped the cane in his hand.
"Four people, three of them surrounding the person walking in the middle."
With a creaking sound, the wooden door was slowly pushed open, and a gentle voice came out.
"Hello, what can I do?"
Matt took over the conversation naturally and took out a crumpled piece of paper from behind with some confusion. On it was a flyer that had been distributed not long ago.
"I heard from a friend that this abandoned church was going to be reopened, so I wanted to come and take a look."
“Likewise, I am a believer.”
Matt Murdock's ears moved slightly. He clearly sensed that after he said that he was a believer, the other figure standing next to him chuckled.
"Of course, you are welcome to come and pay your respects."
The gentle voice of the leader continued to speak, and then signaled to the sturdy man next to him to support Matt Murdock - they also realized that the somewhat puzzling guy in front of them, wearing sunglasses, was a blind man.
Matt accidentally bumped into the sturdy man who was supporting him and felt the cold metal bulge on his waist.
There is no doubt that this group of people are definitely not normal priests and believers.
Soon, Matt and a group of people entered the church. The number of people sitting in the church was far greater than Matt had imagined. Matt could identify at least hundreds of people.
He even heard the voices of some criminals he had beaten before.
Although these former criminals have now been released from prison, it is hard to imagine what will happen with so many people gathered here.
"Quiet, everyone be quiet."
As the volume gradually increased, Matt heard the familiar gentle voice. By determining the direction, he knew that he should be standing in front of the podium at this moment.
"I am the initiator and agent of this event, Joseph Moriarty."
"Of course, you can also call me Father,"
“I am very happy to see many new faces here. I believe we can soon become a family and brothers and sisters.”
"Now, let me have the honor of paying my respects here."
"Celebrate! Our Lord: The Almighty, the Compassionate Sage, the Only True God in the World, the Most Merciful! The Most Benevolent! The Most High! The Most Powerful King - Kal-El!"
“He is already here.”
The lights flickered and finally focused on the center of the platform. The cloak behind him slowly floated up and a figure fell from the sky. It was Link.
Although Matt in the audience could not see it with his own eyes, he was still deeply shocked by the words that continued to linger in his ears.
He didn't expect that these people with strange behaviors, who seemed to be from a certain fanatical sect, actually worshipped "Superman"! ?
Then, Link spread his arms and spoke in his deep but undeniably firm voice:
"I am very sad!"
"If you ask me why I feel sad, it's because I see some stubbornness in you that shouldn't exist in you!"
"I know you are angry about the slander and rumors spread by those stupid people some time ago. I also know you are angry about it."
"but!"
"You stubborn people shouldn't have attacked those newspapers and media. Although you disguised yourself well, you still left some clues!"
"This makes me have to fear for your lives!"
"Our real enemy is not them!"
"It's the greed and malice lurking behind them!"
"But this cannot shake our great spirit to change this corrupt world!"
"We will win in the end!"
"Our speech tonight may soon be forgotten..."
"But what we have done will be remembered forever!"
……
Matt Murdock, who was pale and sweating, felt as if the devil was whispering in his ear.
But this is not the most terrible thing. The most terrible thing is that he clearly heard,
Everyone around me, pay attention! All the people who were originally sitting stood up excitedly, raised their arms and shouted, calling out the name "Kal-El".
They shouted with all their might, their hoarse voices filled with a breath of fanaticism.
Matt Murdoch, who was still sitting stiffly on the bench and silent, seemed particularly out of place.
I could feel everyone looking at me, and the gazes were gradually starting to get a little dangerous.
Matt Murdock slowly stood up.
Even though he could no longer see the face of the person on the stage with his naked eyes,
But Matt could still use his mind to see the hideous face hovering over the entire church.
The real devil sat on the throne, wearing a mask called hypocrisy, and stirring people's minds with inflammatory words.
He looked at the believers below wantonly. Countless dark purple chains, invisible to the naked eye, extended from His hands and bound every believer's neck.
Playing with people's hearts at will and confusing right and wrong.
And I am just a weak "lamb" mixed in with the wolf pack.
Once he was discovered, Matt was certain that he would be torn to pieces here and there.
"I can't just collapse here, I need to keep lurking!"
Matt muttered in his heart, sorted out his thoughts, stood up, pretended to be excited, raised his hands and shouted loudly:
"New World!"
The strange gazes from those around him gradually eased, and the "believers" also stamped their feet excitedly and shouted:
"New World!"
"New World!"
……
After this "grand event" was over, Matt Murdoch returned home with a shaky step and some trepidation. He recorded what he saw and heard today in his own encrypted Braille code.
I simply sorted out and analyzed the information I currently have, and finally wrote at the end:
I have seen the "evil thoughts" hidden in the crowd, which are the "flowers of evil" born from the nature of human beings.
This huge gathered force may bring unpredictable disaster.
