Chapter 206 Interview record of the plague doctor [Part ]

【Observation log】

[Subject: Epidemic Doctor
Foreword: The Plague Doctor was provided with the carcass of a recently deceased goat. The Plague Doctor expressed his gratitude.]

[Observation record: The plague doctor spent several days performing surgery on the goat corpse, resulting in the creation of zombies. The plague doctor was satisfied with the result, but said, "The condition is still in its early stages. My veterinary practice is only at a basic level, but the patient responded well after the surgery."]

【Observation Log

Target: Epidemic Doctor]

[Foreword: The plague doctor was provided with a recently deceased orangutan corpse. In view of the physiological similarities between orangutans and humans, the plague doctor showed obvious gratitude.]

[Observational Record: The Plague Doctor spent several days operating on the ape corpse, resurrecting it multiple times. However, the Plague Doctor seemed dissatisfied with the results, and made three additional changes to the entity after the first resurrection. When the corpse was unable to be resurrected for the fifth time, the Plague Doctor handed the corpse over to Foundation staff for incineration, saying: "I have learned a lot from this, but I am afraid that my earlier optimism was misplaced. I have not encountered such a stumbling block... in my path to healing. More test subjects like this will greatly advance my research."]

【Observation log】

[Subject: Epidemic Doctor
Foreword: The Plague Doctor was provided with the carcass of a recently deceased bull. Although slightly irritated, the Plague Doctor accepted the subject.

[Observational Record: The plague doctor spent several days operating on the bull's body, during which he only requested a meal consisting of thin crackers, salt pork, and hard cheese. The plague doctor first embalmed the body, and was observed to take out multiple long syringes from his bag, each containing a viscous liquid of a different color. The plague doctor described these liquids as "the essence of the body fluids" and elaborated: "The plague can cause a systemic imbalance. In this case, the body fluids must be balanced before real treatment can be carried out, otherwise the body will reject the treatment."]

[Over the next few days, the plague doctor spent much of his time adjusting the organs within the carcass with some large metal tools. After eight days, the plague doctor created an electric baton and struck the carcass in several places. This operation seemed to have the effect of regenerating the cow, and the cow was able to walk, albeit with its head inverted and its limbs displaced.]

【Follow-up interview】

[Begin Log]

[Dr. Hamm: We've been watching you work for a few weeks, and I'm honestly not sure I understand what you're doing. Can you describe your process in detail?]

【Epidemic Doctor: My goodness, the process is extremely meticulous. As I told your assistant, you will find the best description of my methods in my journal, for I record my work there in great detail.】

[Dr. Hamm: I see. My concern is, doctor, we still don't understand what exactly you're trying to cure, or how it works, or how transforming organisms into seemingly alive, mindless entities helps your cause.]

[Epidemic Doctor: Do you still not understand the plague? Even after all this time? Doctor, this is an indescribable horror that has revealed its true colors countless times in the past and will do so again in the future. I am fortunate to have extraordinary wisdom and good senses to find and destroy it, but many people like you cannot do so. Being at the mercy of a disease that you cannot fully understand is probably a cruel punishment from heaven! ]

【Dr. Hamm: That still doesn't answer my question. How can your treatment be considered a treatment?】

【Plague Doctor: (suddenly becoming excited) That is the cure! You may laugh at my efforts, but do not sully the name of a science that has developed so much and so compassionately. What you see here with such shortsightedness is a life more worthy of anticipation than any life that has ever been plagued. This creature is now clean, no longer spreading plague, and need not experience the horrors it should have suffered.】【Dr. Ham: This is no creature at all, doctor!

【Plague Doctor: (very excited) Don't mess with me, sir! You and your colleagues are like the rest of us, unable to see beyond the minor setbacks that are before you to see salvation! Are you waiting for the rotten timbers to be removed until the hall collapses on top of you? No, you are going to find them, remove them and replace them with something that is not corroded! Most importantly you are not to lightly laugh at this structure, just because it looks different to you now. It is strong! It is no longer diseased.】

[Dr. Hamm: Sorry, I didn't mean to irritate you, I just wanted to understand.]

【Epidemic Doctor: (deep breath) Okay, well, please be careful with your words from now on, doctor. I am a professional, but professionals may also feel their self-esteem damaged by criticism of their masterpieces. For the sake of trust between colleagues, I forgive you.】

【Dr. Hamm: Is there anything else I can help with? 】

【Epidemic Doctor: (Pauses, looks away from Dr. Hamm) No, that's all. Another test subject, on the usual schedule. You know I prefer human anatomy.
[END LOG]

[Researcher's Note: The Plague Doctor does seem to want to help other humans, though it has yet to provide a single instance where it can save us. I have been observing for several weeks, and while the results do not seem to be changing, the Plague Doctor continues to claim that its healing techniques are getting closer and closer to perfection. I think the entity may know the true extent of its achievements better than we do.]

[Appendix Epidemic Doctor.3: A Major Event]

[Dr. Ham conducted multiple interviews with the entity regarding its anomalous properties shortly after its initial containment, and over time, noticed that it became increasingly unhappy with its test subjects and the zombies. This lasted for several months, during which time the Plague Doctor never displayed any aggressive behavior.]

[One day, when Dr. Ham entered the Plague Doctor's laboratory for another routine interview, it began to become anxious and asked Dr. Ham if he was feeling well. Dr. Ham followed protocol to remind the Plague Doctor that he needed to be interviewed, after which the entity became hostile and attacked Dr. Ham, killing him. Due to the failure of safety protocols and Dr. Ham's failure to activate the indoor emergency system, his body was not discovered until three hours later, at which time the Plague Doctor had converted him into a zombie. ]

[After this incident, the plague doctor was interviewed by Dr. Zeman.]

Interviewer: Dr. Zeeman
Interviewee: Epidemic Doctor]

[Begin Log]

【Dr. Zeeman: I need you to explain.】

【no respond】

【Dr. Zeman: Plague Doctor, you are asked to explain your actions. I remind you that refusal to cooperate during containment will result in further restrictions.】
