Chapter 31 Waste?
"Ding Xue? I don't know her."
"What a coincidence, I don't know you either."
Ding Xue followed Bai Le with her hands behind her back, chattering and asking all sorts of questions.
"Are you a freshman at Pearl Academy this year?"
Ding Xue walked quickly forward and turned around, asking Bai Le as she stepped back, casually looking at the green bird hair accessories on her head through the yellow autumn leaves, with a natural charm on her young face.
"You look like a high school student?"
Bai Le ignored him and went to the main campus on his own. Not long after, he stopped with a serious look on his face.
Ding Xue also stopped and moved forward, only a fist away from Bai Le's handsome face. Although they were very close, Bai Le could not smell a single scent.
Tang Yue smelled of flower petals, like some kind of perfume, while Xin Xia smelled of a faint fragrance, like the bamboo trees standing beside a clear spring and a rock pool.
There was no smell on Ding Xue's body, as if she didn't exist.
"Where are you going? I can lead the way. I'm very familiar with this place."
"Do you know where to get to the main campus?"
Bai Le realized seriously that he was lost. He should have asked Dean Xiao for directions carefully before leaving and should not have blindly trusted his sense of direction.
"Main campus? Aren't you a freshman?"
"The main campus isn't far from here, but can you tell me exactly where you're going? I can lead the way for free, including the boys' dormitory."
The girl in front of him, who was about the same age as Bai Le, seemed to know Mingzhu Academy very well.
"Department of the Undead."
"House of the Dead?" Ding Xue looked at Bai Le with even greater curiosity.
"That spooky laboratory? There lives a weird old man in it, studying corpses all day long."
After knowing the destination, Ding Xue stopped talking and led the way in the golden autumn sunshine, her black hair covered with a layer of glow.
"That's the lab you're looking for!"
It is said to be a laboratory, but it looks more like a church dedicated to angels. The old giant clock no longer moves, and vines wildly wrap around the church.
It looked abandoned for a long time, and even the bright autumn sunshine could not dispel the dead silence.
"Are you sure this is a laboratory?"
"Trust me, you're right. I don't have much time, so I have to go first. See you next time."
"Thank you."
Bai Le watched Ding Xue leave, and a strange feeling crept into his heart. This girl gave him a very wrong feeling, but he couldn't put his finger on it.
Pushing open the unlocked iron gate, Bai Le casually placed his luggage next to the gate, thinking that no one would mind his meager luggage.
After meeting with Dean Xiao, Bai Le asked Dean Xiao about the accommodation issue. Dean Xiao said mysteriously that someone would naturally solve the accommodation problem for him after he reported.
Coming to the gate covered with vines, Bai Le inserted the black key, and after twisting it for a while, the ancient gate was pushed open by Bai Le.
It was a cloudless autumn day with the sun high in the sky, but behind the ancient gate it seemed like a deserted forest, eerie and cold.
After Bai Le walked in slowly, the ancient door slammed shut, and the dim light in the church building was not enough to see the ground clearly.
Before entering, Bai Le clearly noticed that there were many glass windows on the church building, which were large enough to let in sunlight even though they were entangled by vines. After entering, the glass windows disappeared collectively, and there were only towering stone walls around.
Bai Le tentatively moved forward at a snail's pace.
After taking the fifth step, a white light suddenly spread from the top, and blue candles lit up on the surrounding stone walls. "Little guy, what are you doing here?"
An elderly man with gray hair appeared at the end of the corridor. His round face looked sinister in the blue candlelight, revealing the paleness that only people who had died long ago in the morgue had.
"I'm here to report."
The old man stroked his long white beard and did not reply.
The blue candle flame was burning, but Bai Le could not feel any warmth from it.
"Your second system is the Undead System?"
"Old man, my first department is the Undead Department."
"Come with me."
The gray-haired old man turned around and took Bai Le deeper into the building.
"It's a bit messy, sit anywhere you want."
Bai Le looked around, and after some hesitation, he decided to stand. The ground was in a mess, with broken limbs and arms. The seat next to him was made of a monster that Bai Le had never seen before, with its fangs bared and claws waving.
"You should go to the ancient capital. Although I don't know why you came to Mingzhu Academy, I will be your teacher from now on. My surname is Luo, and you can call me Professor Luo." Professor Luo ignored Bai Le and used an instrument to extract a human corpse.
"Dean Xiao told me that I have no teacher and can only explore on my own."
"To be precise, that's right. You need a stable environment for your cultivation, and I'm very busy. I travel all over the country to collect experimental materials, so it's normal for you not to see me for four or five months. Maybe you may not see me for a year."
Professor Luo continued to extract the body. The body quickly shrank and a black mass remained in the instrument.
"While I am still in the Pearl Academy, you should decide on your training direction as soon as possible. I will help you develop a training plan and provide some materials."
"Direction of cultivation?" Bai Le was puzzled. He didn't know much about the undead system which was not given much attention in the original novel. The only thing he knew clearly was summoning undead to fight and making vessels for the dead souls.
"You can simply understand it as scientific researchers and combatants." Professor Luo carefully took out the black mass and placed it in another container.
"Research means that your future training will probably be related to auxiliary, such as tempering dead objects, repairing and making vessels for dead souls, processing spirit beast souls, and exploring ancient ruins."
"As for the battle, it's probably about summoning the dead from the underworld to fight. You should have already experienced this. Summoning the dead requires a medium."
Professor Luo sealed the extract and then proceeded to process another corpse.
"You will summon the undead later and let me help you research the development direction. There are countless types of undead in the underworld, and most of them have not been recorded and summoned by humans yet."
"By the way, let's go to the training ground at the end on the left..."
Before Professor Luo could finish his words, Bai Le had already summoned the white skeleton. Sensing the movement, Professor Luo stopped what he was doing and turned around unhappily.
"Young man, you're in such a hurry. What if you break my experiment... huh?"
Professor Luo pushed the frame of his glasses and was a little stunned.
"You undead..."
"very good?"
"No, it's very bad."
Professor Luo looked at the white skeleton from closer, frowning.
"Although most summoned undead appear in human form, they are very different from humans. Ordinary skeletons often have some obvious features, such as bone spurs. Your undead has already advanced to the level of a slave and is about to break through to the level of a general, but your body size is still the same as that of a human."
"To be frank, you are a useless undead, and you are also an advanced slave. Go back first and let me do some research. There is a villa on the right side of the door. That is where you will live."
There will be another chapter later
